how to play stellaris determined exterminators

Still, I've never seen the AI actually get Battleships on the field in 2300, let alone have multiple fleets containing Cruisers.

AI actually beat me to Battleships (although to be fair I am lagging quite a bit in tech, due to economic issues due to my rapid expansion).AI doing *much* better at building fleets no instances of hundreds of mini-fleets everywhere, and most fleets are at or near their cap.One instance, the AI even made an Open Borders agreement while at war and hit the rear of my Empire, which saved them from destruction as I had to pull everything back.Having generally warlike Empires on both my flanks has generally forced me to not deploy all my forces for each invasion, and the AI will absolutely try and contain me a few years after starting any sort of war.AI has been *much* better keeping fleets at or near their Naval Cap no more 1k fleets in 2250.Forced me to abandon the first war and deal with the attack on my other flank even lost my homeworld for a bit.Did an early war against the one peaceful Empire (Federation Builders) AI on my other flank took that opportunity to launch an invasion.Honorbound Warriors and Fanatic Purifiers everywhere yay!.Typical start with no good Energy/Mineral worlds, which forced a fast expansion.Here's how it's gone down, and my thoughts on the AI as a whole (Commodore Difficulty, Huge Galaxy): I knew there were a lot of AI improvements in 3.3, but *nothing* could prepare me for the fight the AI is giving me. The last game I did on 3.2 I was able to outscale the AI by the mid-lategame, and the AI simply couldn't keep up. So, I generally play a super-wide but campy playstyle, but I've played Stellaris enough now where I've decided to do a game as Determined Exterminators for the first time.
